The Throttle Position Sensor, or TPS, measures the throttle position through changing voltage and sends the information to the ECU, or Engine Control Unit. The ECU uses this information along with other inputs to calculate the correct amount of fuel delivered to the engine for optimal air/fuel ratios. Symptoms of failure include poor starting, improper automatic transmission converter lockup, engine stumbling, stalling, and or a check engine light.
