This complete unit comes with all the things your fireplace needs to light and stay lit. Starting with the Pilot- Connects to your fireplace pilot line and supplies fuel to the pilot light. The Igniter- Creates a spark to light the pilot (usually an arc between the igniter and the thermocouple in the path of the pilot gas flow). Connected to the fireplace via an insulated wire (wire to the igniter not included with this assembly). The thermocouple- Small metal sensor (about the size of a pen tip). The thermocouple is a thermoelectric device connected to your fireplace via a copper wire that allows the pilot valve to stay open when the thermocouple is heated. (Causing the pilot light to stay lit). The Thermopile- Metal rod about the size of your pinky finger. The thermopile is an electronic device that converts thermal energy into electrical output. When subjected to heat the thermopile sends millivolts to the fireplace allowing the main valve to open and your fireplace to light.
